Organization
The Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance, also known as PRDLA, focuses on cooperative ventures among academic libraries located around the Pacific Rim to improve access to scholarly research materials. The traditional role of the library to acquire, organize, and deliver information is an enduring one. Rapid changes in both the quantity and the formats of information resources. however, have combined with budgetary limitations to undermine the viability of the classic library founded on large, comprehensive collections. The development of comprehensive collections of foreign publications is particularly challenging. The Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance seeks to overcome these constraints through aggressive resource sharing, cooperative collection development, and the use of technology in support of document delivery. PRDLA supports traditional and emerging library functions among its members with collaboration and funding for:
- Digitization of information resources
- Shared access to electronic and hard copy information resources
- Sharing of expertise
- Personnel exchange
- Professional development and research
